DMV DELINQUENT TAX RELEASE

DMV DELINQUENT TAX RELEASE

In accordance with CGS 14-33, delinquent motor vehicle taxes are reported to the Department of Motor Vehicles.

If your name has been reported to DMV as being delinquent of motor vehicle taxes, you will not be able to register or renew the registration of any motor vehicle(s) associated with your name until all motor vehicle taxes are paid in full and a release is issued by the tax office.

If an immediate DMV release is needed, payment must be made by cash in the tax collector's office.   An immediate (Real Time Release) will show at a DMV office immediately but will not show on the DMV website until the following day.

If you have a DMV emergency, you must call the tax office prior to coming to the office or paying online.

If you pay online at washingtonct.org with a credit or debit card, it will take three business days to clear with DMV.   Payments made by check or online electronic check will take ten business days to clear with DMV.

If your account is with a collection agency, it will take additional time to clear.
