Motor Vehicle Tax Bill Information and Instructions
REVIEW tax bill(s) carefully. Problems concerning ADJUSTMENTS ON MOTOR VEHICLES should be directed to the ASSESSOR (Barbara S. Johnson 860 868-0398).
If a vehicle was REPLACED AFTER 10/01/2004 and the REGISTRATION TRANSFERRED to another vehicle, you don't need to do anything. You will receive an automatic credit for this vehicle on a supplemental bill in January 2006.
You may be eligible for a tax credit if your vehicle:
- Was SOLD and the REGISTRATION WAS NOT TRANSFERRED to another vehicle.
- Was STOLEN or TOTALLY DESTROYED and the REGISTRATION WAS NOT TRANSFERRED to another vehicle.
- You moved OUT OF STATE and registered your vehicle there.
To obtain a credit you must FURNISH 2 FORMS OF PROOF as required by the Assessor. All forms of proof must IDENTIFY THE VEHICLE specifically. License plates must be returned to DMV and a plate receipt obtained. Following are some acceptable forms of proof:
- MANDATORY: stamped plate receipt from the DMV along with any of the following:
- Copy of the bill of sale
- Copy of the transfer of title
- Receipt From charitable organization
- Notarized statement from junk dealer
- Insurance company settlement statement
- Copy of accident or police report
- Copy of registration in another state
All our tax information is received from DMV. Please make sure you notify them with any changes to your registration.
All address changes must be made with Motor Vehicle.
