TOWN OF WASHINGTON, CONNECTICUT
SPECIAL TOWN MEETING
March 8, 2007

The voters and electors of the Town of Washington are hereby warned that a Special Town Meeting will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. at Bryan Memorial Town Hall, Washington Depot, Connecticut to consider and act upon the following:

1. To authorize Richard C. Sears, First Selectman, to enter into and sign contracts on behalf of the Town of Washington with the State of Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection.

2. To amend the Town Ordinance "Tax Relief Program for Elderly and Disabled Homeowners."

1) Resolution: "To consider and act upon a resolution to authorize Richard C. Sears, First Selectman, to enter into and sign contracts with the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection."

Purpose: This resolution authorizes the First Selectman to sign a grant agreement with the CT DEP for a $100,000 grant for the construction of the boat launch at 59 East Shore Road, New Preston.

2) Resolution: "To amend the Ordinance "Tax Relief Program for Elderly and Disabled Homeowners to read under "ELIGIBILITY", Section E: "Applicants whose income levels are above the maximum allowable for state tax relief may qualify for tax credits under this ordinance if Total Income for the previous calendar year shall not exceed an amount recommended by the Tax Assessor and approved by the Boards of Finance and Selectmen of the Town of Washington."

Purpose: To enable the amending of the maximum allowable income limits for this tax program as recommended by the Tax Assessor and approved by the Boards of Finance and Selectmen. Currently, the income limits can be changed only at Town Meeting. Because of inflation and the occasional change in state income limits, limits for this program should be changed accordingly.
