TAX COLLECTOR’S NOTICE

Notice is hereby given to the taxpayers of the Town of Washington that Personal Property and the first installment of Real Estate taxes on the grand list of October 1, 2015 are due and payable on July 1, 2016.  Taxes are due at the rate of fourteen and one-quarter (14.25) mills.  The last day to pay without interest is August 1, 2016.

Payments received or postmarked after August 1, 2016 are considered delinquent and will be charged interest from the due date of the tax (July 1, 2016) at the rate of 1.5% per month or fraction thereof (18% per annum) with a minimum interest charge of $2.00, as required by Conn. Gen. Stat. 12-130, 145 & 146.

Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve a taxpayer of the responsibility to pay taxes or delinquent charges, as per Conn. Gen. Stat. 12-130.  Interest is charged on all late payments, there are no exceptions to this policy.   Any past due taxes, including interest and fees, must be paid in full before payment on current bills can be accepted.  If real estate taxes remain unpaid as of March 31, 2017, tax liens will be applied. 

Please make checks payable to “Town of Washington(include phone number on check).  Mail payments and coupons to:  Washington Tax Collector, P.O. Box 383, Washington Depot, CT 06794.  Returned check fee is $20.

For a receipt please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope with your payment.  Bills may be paid at the Tax Collector’s Office in Bryan Memorial Town Hall from 9:00 a.m. to Noon and 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or online: www.washingtonct.org.  Go to the Tax Collector’s page and click on “Tax Lookup and Pay Online.”
