Fire Alarm at Town Hall

At approximately 4:50am Friday morning the Washington Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the Washington Town Hall for a smoke alarm activation in the IT room. The building was entered and the cause of the smoke condition was traced to an electrical problem in the transfer switch for the Town Hall emergency generator. The Fire Department isolated the problem and ventilated the downstairs office area to remove the light smoke condition.

The electric alarm system functioned as it should providing an early warning and the alarm monitoring service immediately summoned the fire department. The Washington Vol. Fire Dept. responded; mitigated the problem quickly and there is no interruption to Town Hall business.

This small incident did not have a chance to grow due to the early detection of the alarm system.

During Fire Prevention Week it serves as a reminder to all that early detection is the best defense if a fire occurs. Check your smoke detectors and alarm systems; it will save lives and property.
