The Washington Parks & Recreation Department will be sponsoring its annual FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION on Wednesday, July 4 (rain date: Thursday, July 5) at the Shepaug Valley Middle/High School Grounds, South Street, Washington. Events include, Road Race, Family Picnic and Fireworks.

$20.00 car passes can be obtained at the Parks and Recreation Office in Washington Town Hall M & W 9:00 AM to 3PM June 1st to June 15th and Monday to Friday 9am- 3pm June 18th to July 3rd or while supply lasts. Also, on a limited basis Saturday and Sunday outside the Washington Food Market. Passes may also be purchased by mail until June 26th. Please send a self addressed stamped business-sized envelope to Washington Parks & Recreation, P.O. Box 383, Washington Depot, CT, 06794. Special fireworks t-shirts may be purchased at the Parks and Rec office at those times. Picnic set ups will not be allowed before 3:00 pm. The gates for the fireworks close at 8:45 pm.

Fireworks are subject to weather, (rain, or lack of rain, low ceiling or high winds). If the show is in progress and is called off, there will be no refunds or rain dates.

No keg beer, pets or personal fireworks are allowed. Abuse of alcohol will not be tolerated. Failure to obey may result in arrest.

The grounds for the BYO FAMILY PICNIC will have limited concessions sponsored by local groups. To start off the festivities, spectators will be treated to the local sound of "Flashback", and at 9:30 pm the National Anthem will be performed, followed by what promises to be an extraordinary production of Fireworks to celebrate our Nation's Independence, and our "Enduring Freedom" as Americans.

The Washington Parks & Recreation Dept. is doing everything to make America's Birthday a wonderful event, and they ask your cooperation by cleaning up your own space. Volunteers are needed to help before the fireworks and to help clean up the next morning. For more information or to volunteer, please contact the Washington Parks and Recreation office at 868-1519.

Stephen Reich Freedom Run

The 5K Run/Walk Race for Washington residents and their guests will begin at 9:00 am with registration at 8:30 am at the Steep Rock Horse Ring on July 4th. There is no rain date. No participants on bikes, roller blades, etc. will be permitted. Please no dogs. Information/Cancellation at 868-1519.
